OS 10.9.3. Controls and frame disappear once I start recording. Video files that are saved won’t open in QuickTime (“not a valid movie”). Going in search of another screen recording app...

Screeny is an excellent tool for screencasting. It’s simple, light, and gets out of the way while using it. It does not record audio, but adding audio in editing is important for quality screencasting, so I actually prefer that.

The review I left when I was running Mountain Lion was 5 stars however don’t buy this abandoned app if you run 10.9 or newer as it won’t work and the developer hasn’t updated the app since Feb 2013. The app crashes on Mavericks and will not record anything on the screen. The developer isn’t interested in even warning new customers that this is a known bug and that would take maybe 20 minutes for them to update the listing here. It’s a great tool and I got my money’s worth on 10.8 but to not have a warning for new purchasers seems a sign that this app should be removed from the store by the developer if they don’t indicate what the system requirements are. Two stars. I hope an update arrives or at least the developer communicates that it can’t be patched in the next few weeks. For me, time to spend money on an app that is funded well enough to work on Mavericks. Don’t buy this if you want to use it on 10.9 or newer OS despite what the text of the app says, it’s not compatible with 10.7 and newer - it’s only compatible with 10.7 to 10.8.5 If you run 10.8 or 10.7 this app is just perfect for recording a quick capture to show others how to navigate a web service, set up an account or just make a short product demo.

I was attempting to record a minecraft survival games gameplay, the recorder made me lag down to 5 FPS, and the recorder hardly even picked up my voice. If youre thinking of getting it, dont.

Need support, as offered here? Go to Support. It says This Site Is Closed. Therefore, no help in making audio work.

This has worked fine with no hiccups so far. Takes some experimentation as there are no tool tips. All in all not a bad utility. Thanks ... Ken

This app hasn’t been updated in 1.5 years, and no longer works. Don’t buy.

I don’t understand the 1-star reviews for this app; It records your screen, and it’s free. Big win. If you want more features, go buy a license to something else. This app is made primarily for short screen captures, not recording 60fps gaming, geez.

This app is great for recording reguler videos of your screen! This app also works for gammers! I was able to record my screen for a game play video! The only thing I would like the maker of this app is to add coustable colors for the border of the cam screen/box I want to record my screen with face cam, and I don’t want the border for the face cam box to be purple and pink, becuase I am a boy/man, so those arn’t my choice of colors, so I’t would be Great if you could add more colors for the face cam box.

pretty good, able to upload, and FREE! this is great but can you make a app of this on the windows store and google play? if you do then I will rate 5 stars on each one

I bought Screeny and used the Soundflower plug-in to enable audio recording. The app records video well, but audio recording, with the Soundflower plug-in, no longer works for me. Anyone know of a workaround to record audio? Soundflower still works with QuickTime screen recording.

I’m appreciative of the fact that it’s free, but it crashes any time I click within the recording area. Please update! Thanks!

This app is perfect, it’s like an updated version of QuickTime Player. But when I click the support link, it gives me a blank 404 page and i need to record system audio, anyone know how to do this?

It DOES NOT WORK anymore! I WANT A REFUND! is it possbile to auto stop recording without being in front of the computer? This was posted in Aug of 2012. Never updated, modified etc. DO NOT BUY THIS APP. I WANT A REFUND!!!! I hate that developers make their money and when they stop they dont work on the app and develop a new app and call it something else. UPDATE Aug 2015

So, I have been looking for a app that wouldnt let me record my face up in the corner just like a face cam without being covered by the windows that I had open. When I found screening I thought that all my problems were solved, except that it crashes all the time! I really would love if the developers would fix this because it really hinders the quality of the app. If it didnt crash so much it would be so perfect for gaming and things like that

This El Capitan friendly app is free and simply enables video recording and snapshots. I had no trouble recording audio. All I had to do is talk. Have not figured out the PIP but am delighted with what this app does. The support link does not work but I found a good description of the app’s features on the developer’s main site link.

After nothing but terrible results with Quicktime, (stuttering galore, performance, no controls), I came across this free gem. Haven’t had any issues and finally, someone proved that getting a smooth screen recording on modern hardware isn’t impossible. Also of note, 60fps is beatuiful and a much appreciated feature.
